Introducing the Blasteroids!

Kennith wasn't a popular kid in high school. Nor was he a popular guy after. All he ever did was play games and dream of acting out his favorite game at the arcade; Blasteroids. It was a bit outdated but no one appreciated the games before their times. He owned the high score and had aspirations of acting the game out in real life since his actual reality wasn't anything to brag about. He was a twenty-two year old who had graduated high school but never made it to collage. Now he worked as a permanent attendant at the Billionaire Arcade. He had shoulder length dark brown hair that curved at the ends. His blue eyes were, according to the "Populars" his only attractive feature. He didn't care though. He had his games and a promise that when Billy, the owner of the arcade, retired or kicked the bucket that the whole place would be his. Kennith sighed as the little space ships exploded and he was awarded a extra life.

Jake, a friend of Kennith's from High School was was partially fond of these games but he ended up getting a job in the Marines. At first it wasn't anything special but due to specific circumstances he was pushed to infantry. He had the proper training for it and had above average marksmanship at boot camp.

The battle was far from what he expected. Many of the people in his platoon were either severely injured or killed. At one point his commander was taken out by an insurgent sniper. At the moment of truth he pulled himself together and lead the group out, even after taking a bullet to his helmet. Because of this higher ranking officers saw him fit for a special program.

Without any notice he was picked up off the base he was located at and taken somewhere unknown by a Black Hawk helicopter. "What's going on?"

The only reply he got was, "Congratulations, you've just been promoted to Lieutenant."

(You have to find a way for your character to get pulled into the program as well)

Kennith finally was taken out after the fiftieth round and realized he had run out of quarters. He decided it was time to go refill on them at the bank. He sighed and yelled over the music of the games to Billy "Hey I am gonna go get some cash. I'll be back in a minute. You got things here?" Billy just grumbled and waved his hand as he counted the coins from his lock box in the back room. Kennith decided to walk because being broke made it hard to get a ride anywhere. He got about half way there and was stopped by two men where gray camouflage and trench coats stepping in front of him. They held out their hands and out rolled two badges with their pictures on them and had a long abbreviation.

"Sir, you have been drafted for selective service. Please come with us. "
Kennith stared blankly at them as if he had been slapped. All he could muster out was "Umm what?"
The man on the right said "Selective service. You have been drafted into our new program and we are having trouble getting volunteers. So I repeat. Please come with us." Kennith just nodded and followed them into an alley where a black Sadan was waiting. He climbed into the back seat with the two men on either side of him. The driver pulled out and drove away. They passed the arcade and suddenly Kennith wondered if he would ever see that place again. Sadness seemed to take him but he quickly shook it away as they passed the city limits sign.

Jake had all ready been transported into a base far underground in Colorado. He was sitting at a long black table with slick rolling chairs in a wide open room. Two men sat in front of him, staring. When one man came up to Jake and asked to take his firearm Jake growled and clenched it, "The gun stays." The man blinked and walked away. The other two found this somewhat amusing but otherwise hid their emotions.

"Is this...some sort of debriefing?" He asked, getting somewhat impatient.

"No. Someone else is handing that for you. This is more of a...briefing." Said the other man.

Jake narrowed his eyes, "Am I being set up for another mission? This is fairly peculiar. When does the briefing begin?"

"When the other arrives."

After about an hour of riding, they pulled a black cloth bag over his head. Finally, the vehicle came to a squeaking halt. Words were spoken but Kennith didn't catch them. He was dragged out of the back of the car and pushed through a door. He then took a breath as the bag was pulled away and the room was revealed. There, sitting in a chair was his old friend. "J...Jake? What are you doing here?" He couldn't believe his eyes. He made fists and rubbed his eyes making sure he wasn't dreaming. "What's going on?"

Jake just stared at him and raised a brow. "Kennith...?" He looked to the officers in charge, "He isn't here for the Briefing is he?"

The men nodded, "He is." They pulled out a folder and tossed it on the table. Jake opened it and stared with confusion.

"Sir, what is this?" He asked while looking at a strange photo of some creature.

"That Lieutenant is an extraterrestrial being. We have found life on another planet, and you two will be going as a two man platoon. Other will be sent after your contact, you will both be acting as a scout team."

He took a few steps forward and held up his hands. "Hold on one second. I have not done any military work whatsoever. What am I doing here? and another thing, Did you say extraterrestrial? You mean like aliens?" He was so confused that he felt like he was going to pass out.

"Those old arcade games were made as a device to test reaction times. You are by far the best. You will undergo some training to learn the proper method of flying the crafts we have available but after that then you will be introduced into the military. It comes with great pay and benefits. You will also be one of the first to confront new life in space."

He nodded. "Ok when do I start?" He looked around the room.

"Tonight you will both be situated to the facilities and start training tomorrow morning. Welcome to the Solar Forces boys, you'll be the first to set foot on a new planet."
